Rules for Texting Your Ex Girlfriend - 4 Rules You Might Want to Follow

Generally speaking, I don't think that a guy should feel like he has to follow any rigid set of rules when it comes to relationships. In a lot of situations, making up the rules as you go along is going to prove to be just as useful as following some arbitrary set of stipulations that someone thinks that you should follow. However, when it comes to texting an ex girlfriend... I think that there are a few rules that you should follow so that you don't end up making her feel like you are not really grasping the idea that the relationship is over. Even if you are holding onto hope that you can get your ex girlfriend back, it's still not a good idea to make her feel like you are not at least acknowledging that the break up is real.

Here are 4 rules for texting an ex girlfriend that I think you might want to follow if you don't want to end up on her bad side:

1. Don't text your ex girlfriend multiple times in one day.

Probably the worst thing that you can do is to make your ex girlfriend feel like you are harassing her with your texting. That means that you don't want to send too many text messages in a short period of time. If you do, you might give her the impression that you are just sitting around with the phone in your hand, waiting for her to text you back. That's not a pretty picture.

2. Don't text your ex girlfriend anything that is going to start an argument with her.

You don't want to do this for multiple reasons. One is that arguing via text message is just lame. Another is that the whole point of staying in communication with your ex girlfriend is so that you and her are still connected to one another in some way and if you start arguing with her this way, you are going to sever that connection.

3. Make sure that when you text your ex girlfriend, you think things through before you send her whatever you are going to send her.

It's not a game of golf, there are no mulligans. Once that message has been sent, she is going to get it. So, you might want to take at least a few minutes to think about what it is that you want to say and whether or not it is really worth sending. If you want to err on the side of caution, most text messages are not really all that monumentally good and the downside is that you can mess things up in a way that you can't fix. So, I'd say that it is better not to send if you are doubtful than it is to risk sending something that will annoy her or just come across as, "why is he even bothering to text me that?"

4. Don't use texting as a replacement for actually talking to your ex girlfriend.

This is for the guys who really want to win back their ex girlfriend. While you can have a little bit of fun texting a woman, you really can't have the same impact as you can in person. Words don't quite have the same meaning when they are on a tiny little screen and there are other things that you can't do like smile at her at just the right moment if you are not face to face with her. So, don't make the mistake of using texting as a replacement for talking on the phone or actually meeting up in person and having a conversation with her.
