Some Popular Myths About The Online Dating Scene

Our world is constantly changing - it so happens that things we consider to be sci-fi at the moment usually become reality in as little as 5-10 years. With such alterations in the world, our minds also undergo some changes. With the development of the Internet, dating acquired a totally different meaning. When people decide for themselves that they want to date, have short- or long-term relationships, or create a family - they rarely start looking around at the people they already know. What they usually do is go online and sign up on a dating site. For better or worse, there are a lot of dating sites you can choose from. Of course, it is hard to choose from a great number of similar web sites; however, having lots of options is always much better than having only a few.

Though online dating has been severely criticized by many, including psychologists, older generations and those who had bad luck with it, the pros definitely outnumber the cons. Some popular myths about dating online will be debunked below.

Myth #1. People who use such services are losers who cannot find a man/a woman in real life.

False! Have you ever considered that people who start looking for their soul mates online may be ones who work a lot and don't have time to hang out in bars desperately waiting to hook up with some random person? The other reason might also be that they don't want all their friends and family to know that they are actively searching, in order to avoid constant jokes and their unstoppable desire to tell you about every single girl they know. "I know the right one! You would totally love each other!" Using dating services, you can set your own pace in finding your match.

Myth #2. Users of online dating sites can be very dangerous!

Although even the best online dating sites cannot 100 % guarantee you that every single user is trustworthy and wouldn't lie at all on their profiles, there are still measures taken to avoid scammers, liars and people with criminal backgrounds. Of course, no one is safe from possible mishaps online, but at the same time no one guarantees that random people you meet on the bus, in the grocery store, or in the bar will be exactly what they said about themselves the very first time. Safety should always come first; that's why using an online dating site as a starting point for knowing somebody is a much better way than meeting in person right away. You can take it really slow and go on a real date only when you know enough information about the person - that will allow you to feel safe. At the same time dating online can be very helpful in avoiding situations when you can't leave right away from a date which will obviously not lead anywhere - just text "not interested," and it doesn't sound as bad when you don't need to look directly in their eyes.

Myth #3. There's no way you can find serious relationship online!

False again - unless you specifically look for a website a-la needonenightstand.com, which are in great number as well. However, think about it this way - if you have a defined purpose of finding a long-term relationship and turn to online services, then what makes you think that you are the only one with such an idea? That's the beauty of the Internet with its many specific purpose sites - you will find exactly what you are looking for, whether it is a woman from Russia or a girl within 50 miles of your zip code.

Being persistent, along with having lots of opportunities offered by the Internet, will get your life on the track where you want it to be.
