How to Deal With Bullies - Part Five - Where Do We Go From Here?

Welcome to Part Five in the series of How to Deal With Bullies - Where Do We Go From Here? Here you will find a quick recap of the first four articles plus receive a few practical steps to move forward and deal with the bully problem in your area.

In Part One we talked about the root of the problem - the breakdown of the family. We need to have solid relationships in our families as well as having the parents be the greatest influence in their children's lives or somebody else will be. Part Two covered the two main types of bullies - verbal and physical as well as sub-categories under those such as cyber-bullying, manipulation, etc. Part Three was how not to be a target. Here we covered practical things such as having, walking and talking with confidence. Part Four dealt with boundaries. It is important to set boundaries with those around you to have healthy relationships.

Finally that brings us to Part Five - Where Do We Go From Here? The first thing I would suggest is to start implementing the things from the first four articles. That would be a great first step. Another important aspect of taking action to deal with the bully problem in your community is to get involved. You can approach your child's teacher or principal and ask about the bully problem. Offer your help, find out what you can do.

You could start a leadership club or an anti-bullying club at school, church or any other social setting. Teach kids how to be true leaders by example versus leading by bullying to get what they want. Talk to other parents, coaches, the school board or the superintendent. Don't bury this subject anymore as just a natural thing that kids have to go through. That is unacceptable. No one should be bullied period.

Meet with your local police or sheriff's department. Find out from them what is happening in your community. It's possible they may have some programs in place to help stop the bully problem. If they don't, maybe you could take the initiative to get something started. It has been my experience that law enforcement personnel appreciate help and support from the community. You could also sit in the next city council meeting or talk to the mayor. Start raising awareness everywhere you can. I guarantee that there are others who are as concerned as you are. Work together.

In this five part series we have really just covered the tip of the iceberg. My intent was to get you thinking about the bully problem and give you some practical steps to get you on your way. Have an awesome day and keep your relationships healthy!
