If he's going above and beyond to win you over and making you feel uncomfortable, you might want to think about the reasoning behind this. Sometimes, it's because he's on the rebound from another relationship... or he's getting desperate because he's getting older. Clinginess can be a sign of jealousy or abuse in the future, so be very careful about that.

Finally, another red flag is he is constantly talking badly about his ex partner. Even if your new partner no longer likes their ex, they shouldn't be running around talking badly about them to other people. This just means he looks resentful, tacky and also unwilling to take any responsibility for whatever he did wrong in the relationship.
